With our first BikeErg’s due to arrive in New Zealand by the end of the month, we run through 5 reasons you are going to love the new Concept2 BikeErg, that also make it a must-have addition to your gym, sports club, or home gym this year!
One of the biggest factors which determine whether you will enjoy a bike workout or not is comfort. No one wants to sit on a bike seat for any length of time if it is hard as a rock, or you can’t find the right seated position! That won’t be a problem for riders on the BikeErg, not only does the BikeErg come with a comfortable, padded saddle; but you also have the option of interchanging the saddle with a saddle of your choice. Not only that, the handlebars and pedals can also be interchanged with your choice of bike parts, so you can kit out this stationary bike exactly like your road bike. Add to that the range of positioning available with the adjustable headset, handlebar and seat post, and you can feel as at home on the BikeErg as you would on your road bike.
The BikeErg can be customized to suit you, including the handlebars, saddle, and pedals.
The PM5 Monitor on the BikeErg feature the same units you have come to expect on other Concept2 machines- speed, cadence (stroke rate on other C2 machines) watts, calories; all set up to make sense in the context of cycling. The PM5 monitor on the BikeErg also features a variety of workout features, allowing you to customize your ride session to suit your training approach, be it long endurance with a distance or time target, or short sharp intervals with designated rest phases.
The PM5 monitor is also the perfect conduit for cycling’s growing virtual reality offerings including pioneer app Zwift. The PM5 monitor supports both ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, meaning you can connect to a wide range of devices from heart rate monitors, to computers, to apps.
Few other stationary bikes offer reliable power, speed and cadence readings with a connectivity that allows you to take full advantage of the Zwift experience. Position your BikeErg in front of your screen of choice and follow the Zwift instructions to enable the ANT+ or Bluetooth capabilities of your PM5 monitor to connect.
One of the most exciting things about the Concept2 Indoor Rower and SkiErg, is the reliability of data recorded from one machine to another. Not only does that mean that you can hop on a C2 machine anywhere in the world and record reliable, comparable data, but it also makes it feasible to run worldwide competitions hosted online like the last year’s SkiErg World Sprints, or the Marathon Challenge (on now!). The New Concept2 BikeErg shares this exciting capability, it’s special sensors that measure temperature and air pressure inside the flywheel housing and additional sensors that determine the angle of the flywheel damper; all making it possible to ensure that each BikeErg records power and speed accurately to one another so you don’t need to worry about calibration or inaccuracy. This opens up a whole range of exciting possibilities for virtual or online BikeErg competitions, so watch this space!
The PM5 monitor on the BikeErg is intuitive and easy to use, and calibrated especially for cycling.
Much like the Concept2 Indoor Rower and SkiErg, the BikeErg is built to last with a welded aluminium frame which is both sturdy and lightweight. Paired with the steel caster wheels on the front of the bike, the whole unit is very easy to move around, allowing for easy storage when not in use. Wheel it out again in front of the TV, or outside onto a patio to have your pick of workout environments! Because of the flywheel sensor power system, you won’t have to worry about a change in calibration with moving the machine, unlike some competitor models.
For gyms and fitness centers the maneuverability of the BikeErg is also a big plus for setting up and packing down circuit training sessions, or spin class set ups.
The perfect machine for spin classes, the BikeErg is lightweight, duable and easy to move. It also has accurate, reliable data comparable between machines.
Adding to the list of reasons Concept2 rowers or skiers have to feel at home on the BikeErg, is the damper system used for resistance regulation. Designed with a lever mechanism on the flywheel, the BikeErg is very easy to adjust to achieve the desired resistance, with a flywheel lever graded 1-10 just the Indoor Rower or SkiErg. The PM5 monitor also has the ‘Display Drag Factor’ option so you can program your BikeErg to an exactly defined resistance (another feature which makes the BikeErg perfect for competition). The added bonus of the upright bike with the flywheel at the base, is that it creates a pleasant draft while the flywheel is in motion, bringing some much-needed airflow to an indoor workout, and helping to keep you cool and comfortable on your ride.
